Radon can be a problem in any home. There is no way to accurately judge if radon is a problem based on house size, condition, age, or even location. Houses within the same neighborhood can have greatly varied levels of radon. An individual radon test is the only way to know how your home is affected.
Everyday people come in contact with radon gas. The average level of radon in outdoor air is 0.4 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) of air. Studies have demonstrated that prolonged exposure to higher levels of radon causes lung cancer in humans. The World Health Organization and the US Surgeon General urge citizens to have their homes tested to determine levels of radon exposure.
Environmental Risk Services performs radon tests using state of the art continuous radon monitors. These instruments record data hourly and, in addition to monitoring radon levels, track factors that may affect results. A trained and certified professional will set a monitor in your home according to EPA standards. At the end of the testing period, generally 48 hours, the monitor will be retrieved and brought back to our office for analysis. We will provide you with a report including the test results and recommendations on what to do next.
